Privacy Policy: Who we are

You can find our privacy policy at the website address: https://thelaughingheart.org.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect data shown in the comments form, including the visitor’s IP address and web browser user agent string for spam detection.

We generate an anonymized string (called a hash) from your email address, which we may provide to the Gravatar service to check if you use Gravatar. Gravatar’s privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After your comment is approved, your profile picture is visible to the public, but only in the context of your comment.

Media

When uploading images to the website, avoid embedding location data (EXIF GPS) as visitors can download it.

Cookies

If you leave a comment, you can opt-in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies for convenience. These cookies last for one year.

When you visit our login page, we set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies, containing no personal data and discarded upon browser closure.

When you log in, we set several cookies to save login information and screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, screen options cookies for a year, and “Remember Me” login cookies for two weeks. Logging out removes login cookies.

Editing or publishing an article saves an additional cookie in your browser with no personal data, indicating the post ID, expiring after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on the site may contain embedded content (e.g., videos, images, articles) from other websites, behaving similarly to if you visited those websites directly.

These websites may collect data, use cookies, embed third-party tracking, and monitor interaction with embedded content if logged in to their website.

Who we share your data with

We include your IP address in password reset emails.

How long we retain your data

Leaving a comment retains its metadata for recognizing and approving follow-up comments automatically instead of moderation.

Registered user personal information is stored in their user profile, accessible for viewing, editing, or deletion by all users except for username changes. Administrators can also access and edit this information.

What rights you have over your data

With an account or leaving comments, you can request an exported file of personal data we hold about you or request erasure. This excludes data we must retain for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments are checked through an automated spam detection service.
